The Nostalgia is Strong as Carmen Sandiego Prepping for a Q1 2025 Return

Gameloft and HarperCollins Productions have thrilled nostalgia buffs around the world with the news that the scarlet super thief, Carmen Sandiego, is making a triumphant return. The plan is to release a brand new game to Netflix, PC, and consoles in Q1 2025. The game will appear on Netflix first and later come to PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and Steam later in Q1.

A new trailer celebrates the big announcement. It should trigger fond memories of the original game, alongside new features that bring it up to par with modern systems.

The game will arrive just in time to celebrate the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The original 1985 game, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, introduced her to the world as the leader of a criminal syndicate called VILE. The new game will allow players to step into her shoes and play as Carmen for the first time ever. This unlocks the thrill of being a notorious super thief while navigating espionage and high-tech gadgets and ultimately capturing VILE.

Features include

  • Traverse the globe
  • Immersion in vibrant cultures
  • Visit iconic cities and landmarks, including Rio, Tokyo, and everything in between
  • Unravel elaborate capers
  • Bring VILE’s elusive criminals to justice
  • Make careful decisions that will shape the outcome
  • Compile dossiers and race against the clock to foil VILE’s plans
  • Enjoy story-driven campaigns or play in classic mode

Caroline Fraser, Head of HarperCollins Productions, said: “Generations have beloved the character of Carmen Sandiego, and for many, it was an introduction to countries around the world. Now, for the first time, players get to be Carmen – sneaking into locations, gathering clues, and pulling off heists – as they experience on-the-ground, immersive, real-world locations. Carmen Sandiego’s overarching theme – to experience and celebrate all cultures – has never been more important and more fun.”
