Zynga has announced that FarmVille, one of its oldest games, is closing down on December 31st. The company announced that the closure is due, at least in part, due to Facebook ending its support of Flash-based games. For context, Adobe will stop distributing Flash later this year and Facebook has decided to end its support of all Flash-based games starting December 31st. Flash has been increasingly vulnerable to bugs and security issues and has declined as a games software platform.
The game made its debut over eleven years ago on Facebook and was followed up by a mobile sequel in 2012. The good news in all this is that FarmVille 3 is primed for release later this year.

About FarmVille
FarmVille lets players cultivate their farms by plowing, planting, and harvesting crops and trees. Players also care for their farm animals: milking their cows and collecting eggs from their chickens.
