Developer CD PROJEKT RED took part in The Game Awards 2024 with the first look at The Witcher IV, the first game in the new saga, in the epic cinematic reveal trailer. The almost six minutes-long trailer gives viewers a glimpse at Ciri as the new protagonist as she takes on the contract to rid a village from a monster demanding human sacrifices. However, things are not as simple as they first appear.
The sequel to The Witcher III: Wild Hunt aims to be the most immersive and ambitious Witcher game to date, utilizing customized Unreal Engine 5 technology. The developers describe it as a single-player open-world RPG, focusing on Ciri’s journey as a professional monster slayer through a brutal dark fantasy world.
“We’re kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story!” said Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director. “It feels so good to finally be able to say those words — for the longest time we knew that we wanted Ciri to be the protagonist of The Witcher IV; it just felt natural to us and we believe that Ciri deserves it. In this game we want to explore what it means to truly become a witcher by following Ciri on her Path. This trailer is a taste of both that, and just how dark and grounded the world of The Witcher can be.”
