This Week in Gaming History and Releases 4/5

Donkey Kong, Luxor, and even DND all released this week.

This week had a ton of successful Nintendo releases, as well as some surprising titles that we haven’t seen since the early nineties. If you missed last month’s history lesson, feel free to mosey on over here to take a look at some March throwbacks. Now, let’s take a step back through time and look at some notable releases and events that happened this week throughout gaming history.

April 5th

This week in Gaming History, Luxor released.

  • 2012 The Witcher: Enhanced Edition – Macintosh version released. (Worldwide)
  • 2007 Mario Kart DS – Nintendo DS version released. (South Korea)
  • 2005 Luxor – Windows version released. (United States)
  • 2000 America Online unveils Netscape Navigator 6.
  • 1984 DND – Version 1.10, shareware – DOS version released. (United States)

April 6th

This week in Gaming History, FFV released.

  • 2011 Final Fantasy V – PlayStation version (PSN release) – PlayStation 3 version released. (Japan)
  • 2006 Warhammer 40,000: Glory in Death – N-Gage version released. (United States)
  • 2001 Warner Bros. releases the animated feature film Pokémon the Movie 3 to theaters in the US.
  • 1982 Atari releases the Pac-Man video game cartridge for the Atari VCS system. Price is US$37.
  • 1976 Steve Jobs arranges a 3-month loan for Apple Computer of $5000.

April 7th

This week in Gaming History, Mafia Wars released.

  • 2009 Mafia Wars by Zynga – iPhone version released. (Worldwide)
  • 2008 Disney Interactive Studios, Inc. – The company announces to acquire Gamestar (China) Ltd.
  • 2006 Guitar Hero – PlayStation 2 version released. (United Kingdom)
  • 2004 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – PlayStation 2 version released. (Germany)
  • 1992 Samurai-Ghost – TurboGrafx-16 version released. (Japan)

April 8th

This week in Gaming History, Donkey Kong released.

  • 2003 Final Fantasy Origins – PlayStation version released. (United States)
  • 2001 Nintendo releases the Dr. Mario 64 video game for the Nintendo 64 in the US. Price is US$29.95.

  • 1988 Donkey Kong – Famicom Disk System – NES version released. (Japan)
