Creative Assembly has announced a new Total War spin off series called Total War Saga. Each game is a stand alone title that will examine “pivotal moments in history”.
Total War Saga – what we know
Game Director Jack Lusted has written a new post on the Total War site to introduce fans to the series. Up to now, Lusted explains, the games have focused on entire eras. In “Saga”, the focus will take on moments instead. These will not be focused on a single character, but rather snippets of time ranging from a few months to a few decades at most.
Players will find familiar ground in TWS as well. Each game will offer a mix of turn-based strategy as well as real-time strategy along with “hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of game play”.
In terms of core game play, it’s not. If you’ve enjoyed previous games, you’ll certainly be interested in Total War Saga games. It’s more about focus. There might be as many playable factions or conquerable territories in them, but that could all be focused down to one specific region or country and a particular point in time.
The new game focus is centered on “table-flip” moments where the outcome could go any one of a number of ways. Players will have the ability to depart from how the actual events happened and forge ahead with something new. “Civil wars, great conquests, rebellions, uprisings and religious movements” are all open for exploration in Saga.
Lastly, Lusted wrote that the first game in this new series will be a follow up to TW: ROME. That’s pretty good news for fans.
