Yomawari: Lost in the Dark is out now for US consumers with a Nintendo Switch, PC, or PlayStation 4.
Grab your flashlight and try to get home before the ghosts get you. The newest entry in the adorably spooky Yomawari series is ready to creep you out. Following on from the Night Alone release in 2005, Lost in the dark is a top down exploration game that could be described as the cutest survival horror I’ve seen.
Set in an unnamed Japanese town, the title follows the fate of a young girl that wakes in a forest. Bound by a terrible curse and with no memories, players must navigate the abandoned streets and unfamiliar territory of this place to recover her memories. Unfortunately, the sun has already set, and this lost child only has until dawn to break this hideous spell.
In among the glow of vending machines and neon shop lights, you’ll need to navigate the darkness to find lost memories and recover the past. However, strange Yokai and vengeful spirits lurk in the shadows. Unfortunately, there is no fighting these ghosts. Fans of the recent Ghostbusters game will need to take a different approach. Instead you’ll be able to use a flashlight to uncover what awaits and then run like heck.
Mixing a moody atmosphere, a cute pixel art aesthetic, and a constant tense heartbeat in the background, Lost in the Dark is familiar for fans of the first title. For anybody who hasn’t played Night Alone then this is likely to be a unique Halloween experience. US players can grab it now, While European and ANZ players will have to wait until this night is done and pick it up on the 28 October. Check out the launch trailer for an idea of what’s waiting and head to the official website now for more on the long night ahead.
