We’re all used to Vikings in video games, whether it’s Asgardian heroes or an enthralling Banner Saga. Now, Ennui Studio is bringing us a new take on bad-ass Vikings with the trailer for Tyr: Chains of Valhalla.
This 2.5D platformer pits players against the clock as they race through a Nordic cyberpunk setting, blasting everything that gets in their way. It might not sound very innovative, but take a look at the trailer and I dare you not to smile.
Tyr’s trailer is a bold mix of sci-fi platforming and bright animation. It tells the story of Professor Oswald Din, aka O.Din, as he tries to stop Lemuz Oki, aka L.Oki, from trying to conquer the world. This is not exactly a complex or thought-provoking plot, but the Ennui, a Mexican indie studio, are clearly out to have fun with the Ragnarök. Look closely and you’ll see Huginn, Muninn, and Sleipnir as robots and Viking cross metal. Tyr: Chains of Valhalla will arrive on PC and PlayStation 4 later this spring. Xbox gamers will have to wait until later this year to take on L.Oki.
