The Wall Street Journal, usually not one for the rumor mill, is reporting that Nintendo may be ready for an updated version of the Nintendo Switch. If true, the new version would likely arrive sometime in the summer of 2019, though that date could obviously slip.
From what is being reported, the updated hardware and currently released games would remain compatible with existing versions. The new Switch version will capitalize on current-gen LCDs as well as updated display capabilities. Doing so will allow Nintendo to recapture sales momentum.
According to The Verge, this is a typical pattern with Nintendo that has released multiple “iterations of each of its main portable consoles”. These include the 3DS that morphed to the 3DS XXL, the New 3DS/XL, the 2DS and the New 2DS XL.
