Deep Silver and inXile Entertainment have released the first in a series of video developer diaries about the features and experiences players will find when Wasteland 3 launches later this year. In this first video, viewers are given a first-hand look at character creation, customization, and combat. The video is hosted by Lead Designer David Rogers.
During character creation, players will be able to choose from premade characters, or they can dive into “deep crunchy stats” and tweak nearly every aspect of the character. Players will also be able to tweak each character’s “quirks”, the unique ways that they have been affected by the apocalypse. This means that a powerful bonus is tied to a “super-powerful penalty” so the choices made are important.
The team is committed to ensuring that players are adequately informed about each and every stat their player possesses. This means players understand what, for instance, being weak means or what the benefits of strength are and so forth. This prevents players from “regretting” choices they made at character creation.
The video also provides a peek at team building and how every character brings different skills and abilities to the group. Building a character as an “all-arounder” isn’t always advantageous.
