Will Skull & Bones Satisfy Players’ Need for More Pirate-Themed Content?

Skull & Bones

Pirate fans can rejoice in the knowledge that there will be a brand new swashbuckling game for console players in 2021. Skull & Bones is the first-ever release from Ubisoft Singapore, and it is set to hit shelves sometime soon. It drew a lot of inspiration from another Ubisoft title, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and will appeal to people who played the 2013 offering. Thanks to the popularity of pirates in mainstream culture, this title should be able to attract a high number of players.

What is Skull & Bones About?

It appears that the main focus of Skull & Bones will be on the ship battles at sea. This was an element of Black Flag, but one that needed a lot more development for it to be truly memorable. The developers of the Assassin’s Creed title had various other aspects to focus on as well, though, so couldn’t flesh out the sea warfare as much as they may have liked.

In Skull & Bones, players will be able to create their own character and travel the seven seas in search of plunder. There will be the option to embark on a single-player campaign or enter a player versus player scenario with many others.

Pirates Continue to be Popular in the Mainstream

Ubisoft Singapore may have been wise to release a pirate-themed offering as its first game, thanks to the fact that it is likely to appeal to a wide range of people. Pirates have always been prevalent in popular culture and can be found in other successful games, television series, and films.

One place in which a vast number of pirate games can be found in online casinos. Players can go to Toppcasinobonus and find out about all the best bonuses on offer in the industry. One of the top-rated sites is Wildz Casino, where there are numerous pirate-based titles for players to enjoy. These include Caribbean Anne and Pirates of the Mediterranean. Pirate fans can find many themed titles like this due to the popularity of the tropes and world-design.

In film, Pirates of the Caribbean is a hugely successful franchise. The five movies to date have has earned more than $4.5 billion, putting the series at number 14 in the list of highest-grossing franchises. On television, Black Sails is a recent cult offering in the pirate genre, and it may have inspired Netflix’s latest pirate-themed documentary, The Lost Pirate Kingdom.

Black Flag May be Tough to Beat

It is exciting to think that a new pirate game will soon hit consoles, but the Ubisoft Singapore title has a lot to do if it is to live up to the legacy of Black Flag. The 2013 pirate adventure was nominated for more than a few Game of the Year awards and won the accolade in a few publications including GameSpot.

It has been a long wait for Skull & Bones since it was first announced in 2017 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. There have been numerous delays, and this suggests that a lot of refinement has gone into the title. Hopefully, it will be worth the wait.
