Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the “pre-launch” event for World of Warcraft Classic will be coming August 8th. The event will kick off at 11:00 am Pacific (2:00 pm Eastern). It will run through Friday, August 9th at 1:00 pm Pacific (4:00 pm Eastern).

Devs are asking that players log in during the test’s first two hours to stress test the servers. This will allow the team to monitor for issues ahead of the August 27th launch.

World of Warcraft Classic is a historical project by Blizzard to recreate the original World of Warcraft 2004 “vanilla” experience. Players have been asking for classic servers for years and about two years ago, Blizzard finally came through.

The Classic client can be downloaded through the BattleNet launcher. Simply open the dropdown menu and select “Classic” to begin the installation.

In addition to the basic information about the testing event, Blizz devs revealed the minimum system specs required to play.

“In our hardware testing, we found that we were able to successfully run WoW Classic on systems manufactured and released in the 2007-2009 timeframe, and thanks to improvements in how we build and distribute game data, the hard drive space requirements are actually smaller than they were in version 1.12 of original WoW.”
