Horror fans eager to try out a sample of Resident Evil Village Maiden can load up the Resident Evil Village Maiden Demo today.

With the latest instalment of Resident Evil set to come crashing through our front doors on 7 May, fans of the reinvigorated horror franchise can take a look at the upcoming Resident Evil Village before it comes for your flesh. The Maiden demo loads on the PlayStation Store today, and PlayStation 5 owners an add it to their library for a sample of the upcoming disaster.

While we’ve labelled the Maiden title a demo, it’s more of a taster of what’s to come. The new experience is an entirely separate adventure into the world of Village and looks like a short and horrifying prologue. While the main game will feature some faces we’ve seen in recent trailers, as well as the main protagonist Ethan Winters, this taster won’t include that central player. Instead, anybody downloading the Maiden demo will play as a character known only as “the maiden.” Unable to fight or even block, you’ll be in control of this character as she attempts to escape from Dimitrescu Castle.

The aforementioned castle, however, does have a strong connection to Village. Many of us have already seen Lady Dimitrescu, the statuesque resident of the aforementioned castle and her trio of companions. After featuring in recent trailers this blood sucking aristocrat looks set to play host to us a little early. The Maiden demo is available for PS5 owners via the PlayStation Store. It will not cost you anything to grab but you will need one of Sony’s next generation consoles to “be able to enjoy the ray tracing and 3D Audio that PS5 offers,” according to Resident Evil Village Producer Peter Fabiano. There’s a bunch more information on Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil Village Maiden demo over on a huge PlayStation Blog, for those who are still waiting on Maiden downloading.
