Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, the latest RPG in the Ys series to hit western markets, just got a brand new story trailer.
Returning to the life of Adol Christin, the newest trailer for the Ys series of games gives us a glimpse of the upcoming action in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. This time around, players picking up after the events of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will find Adol behind bars and Balduq Prison, also known as the prison city due to its gargantuan size. After meeting a mysterious stranger, Acdol finds himself transformed and tied to the fate of the Monstrum, a group of powerful magic users that might be more than they initially appear.
New Heroes, New Mysteries
Players picking up this Ys adventure will be able to dip into the world as more than just Adol. They will be able to wield any of the six notorious Monstrum, each with their own unique Gifts that grant abilities such as scaling sheer walls or detecting hidden objects to protect the city from shadowy creatures. The massive city prison of Balduq should be the perfect backdrop for this new quest, allowing individuals to walk the streets, scale, walls and rush across rooftops as they engage in this flashy looking new ARPG.
Due to hit the Playstation 4 on February 2, 2021 Ys IX: Monstrum Nox originally launched in Japan on September 2019 thanks to Nihon Falcom. The western release is coming out of NIS, as per previous Ys titles, and should hit Nintendo Switch, PC in Summer 2021 too. Ys IX: Monstrum Nox has come some way since the early days of the Ys franchise, even if Ys Origin is still a joy to play. We can’t wait to see how it plays out when it lands in 2021.
