I was fortunate enough to be at the Destiny 2 Gameplay Reveal today in LA. You can read my coverage over at MMORPG.com as well. A metric buttload of information was dropped on us at the event, so we’re going to recount it all here in bullet list form. Here’s everything you need to know about Destiny 2.  What We Know About Destiny 2

What We Know About Destiny 2 After Today’s Reveal

  • It’s a “redo” of sorts for Bungie. They wanted everyone, including the devs, to have a fresh start.
  • It’s a story of loss and reawakening. You start at level 20, but the Tower is destroyed and your connection to the Traveler ruined. EVERYONE has to begin again at level 1.
  • The same three classes are present – Hunter, Titan, and Warlock. But reworkings of the subclasses are expected.
  • It will have more cinematics and story than any of the content in Destiny 1 and anything ever made by Bungie.
  • Yes, Nathan Fillion is featured heavily as Cayde-6.
  • There are four planets to explore: Earth, Nessus, Io, and Titan
  • All Crucible PVP modes will be 4v4 now.
  • One new PVP Mode – Countdown, a capture/defend mode.
  • One new Raid (more details to come)
  • Several new Strikes, the first revealed is the Inverted Spire on Nessus.
  • You won’t have to go to Orbit to queue up content.
  • Worlds will be far more content-rich and exploration based than ever before.
  • Each world has tons of secrets, loot, NPCs, missions, treasure hunts, and public events to engage in.
  • Solo play, but with other people on planets, is a core focus of Destiny 2.
  • Clans are actually IN-GAME now. Complete with custom Clan banners, rosters, rankings, and a leveling and reward system.
  • Guided Games act as a unique merge of Clan Recruitment and Matchmaking – guiding players through Clans looking for players for specific content, and letting those players pick and choose the clans that interest them.
  • The Campaign is called the Red War – tells the tale of the Vanguard against the Cabal led by Dominus Gaul.
  • Beta is coming this Summer, and Destiny 2 will be ON THE BLIZZARD LAUNCHER, as a part of Battle.net on PC.
  • PC release may not be September 8th – could come later. Not nailed down yet.

What don’t we know?

  • When will PC launch? Will you be able to transfer progress from console accounts to PC if you want to switch?
  • What is the post-launch content plan?
  • Will there be any larger scale PVP?
  • How will subclasses work?
  • What happens at the cap, and how is Light Level changing?
  • How big are the worlds?
  • Does PC support controllers (yes, we assume).
  • What happens to Destiny 1 once 2 is live?

  1. Good questions. This being on the blizzard launcher is a huge selling point for me. The ps4 exclusives thing is getting annoying as a pc an xb1 owner though.

    • Yeah, and I think if PC misses the 9/8 launch, it’ll be because Sony got mad and made it so.
