Get in the Mood – 5 Games for Valentines Day

KITTY POWERS' LOVE LIFE - Valentine's Day

“I don’t love you!”  Are you tired of hearing that? I sure am! Actually, you probably have never heard that, and my self-deprecation aside if you are in any way like me, you have probably had a few unfortunate Valentines Days in your time. Don’t let the V-Day blues get you down. We have the perfect list of games to raise your spirits whether you are single this year, or whether you want to cuddle up with your loved one and game yourself into mutual affection, here is our list of 5 Games to get you in that lovin’ mood for Valentine’s Day!

If you’re looking for the purrfect way to get your paws on some lovingly romantic virtual novel gameplay under the guise of a plucky cat dating sim, then look no further!  In fact, some would even say this is a two-for, both a dating game and a Cat game, and let’s all be honest with each other, there may be no purer love than a cat-owners affection for their felines. Our master of dating game ceremonies Ed Orr posted his entire review here detailing all manners of gameplay, and recommended this game as a sweet little diversion to brighten up your Valentine’s Day, and he’s not kitten. Purrfect Date is available on Steam.

What is Love? Is it “Baby Don’t Hurt Me, No More?” or is it the swift and collective cooperation of you and your closest friends (both in proximity as well as emotionally) as you navigate the dangerous depths of space? Obviously, it’s the latter, and throwing in angry space aliens that endanger your crew on a moment to moment basis will only bring your maximum co-op team of four, tasked with handling a ship meant to be controlled by seven people, closer together. True love is taking on the techno pounding, brightly colored Universe together, as lovers.  Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (which is available on Steam).

This just in, Kitty Powers Love Life just released in time for Valentine’s Day.  Why traipse around in your real-world town, in public, being forced to listen to real V-Day whiners at the table next to you make complaints like, “Why didn’t you bring me flowers?” when you can stay here and fix a whole towns’ worth of relationship problems without wasting travel expenses? In Kitty Powers Love Life (KPLL) you can curate your own town for the newly committed all the while not only watching but getting involved directly in your tenants business, just like you do at every family gathering!  Kitty Powers Love Life is available on Steam.

After years in a loving and caring relationship, have you ever awoken one morning to find an attractive naked person that wasn’t your significant other next to you?  It’s probably happened to you what, like a dozen – maybe two dozen times? I guess that all depends on how many times you’ve played Catherine in the past few years.  With a Catherine Remake on the way, Atlus has put together quite the little puzzle game, fraught with emotional peaks and valleys that coincide with gameplay that can be quite challenging.  Maybe Valentine’s Day needs a little drama to get you through it, don’t worry, Catherine’s here for you. Catherine is currently available in the Microsoft Store.

If there is one take away from BioWare’sMass Effect series, it’s that love can transcend time, war, sexes, galaxies, and intergalactic species.  That was probably the single most important thing that Commander Shepherd ever taught me, and I think, if you make the rounds of the Mass Effect series, you will also find, similarly, that whether you are Human, Asari, a Turian or something else, there’s love out there waiting for you after a little effort.  Couple that with some sort of lesser, side storyline about saving the galaxy, and sure, there’s a lot of complex gameplay options that are both fun and challenging, but let’s not lose sight of what really matters. Interspecies relationships. The Mass Effect series is available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

There you have it Valentine’s Day Lovers, a host of games to get your love juices flowing. Let us know if there are any games out there that get you in the Valentine-y mood more than these in the comments.  Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

  1. Candles, cats and coma’s are the keys to love? No wonder I am terrible it! Playful selection that gets the mind thinking of all the love stories out there in games, thanks for that!

    • See Kiwi, the magic of love is easy, all you need are cats, aliens, impending universal destruction or to start your own town. This started as a gaming list, but it’s turned into a how-to on wooing your significant other.

  2. No Hunie Pop? Boooooo 😛
