RiMS Racing – New Motorbike Simulation First Impressions

RiMS Racing is an upcoming motorbike sim developed by Raceward Studio and published by Nacon. The title will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC via Steam in August 2021.

Those who want to give it a spin and see what the game has to offer can dive into a free demo version on Steam.

One might wonder, in a world filled to the brim with racing games and various driving sims covering skies, famous racing tracks, wilderness, water, and all variety of vehicles, how can a new franchise get its own place under the sun? What kind of features can allow a new game to carve its own niche in a highly competitive genre and grab the attention of players, new and veteran alike? I’m glad you asked!

Despite its name, RiMS Racing is not all about speed. It is not even the biggest part of the game. If you want to reach the end of the track, you have to be way more than just a rider: you have to think smart, consider traction, braking, torque, trajectory, and more.

If you simply want to accelerate to the maximum achievable speed and race forward without a single worry, you will have a miserable time in the game and pay for your arrogance very quickly – but hey, there is a pretty cool ragdoll system with hilarious physics!

RiMS Racing is a game for those who want to be in control. Your avatar’s appearance? Customizable, with a great variety of gear options and various ways to handle the vehicle. Your dream motorbike? There are 8 to choose from, including such monsters as Ducati Panigale V4 R or MV Agusta F4 RC. You can even dismantle your vehicle completely and put it back together with different parts, assembled with the particular track and performance in mind.

And boy do you have to keep it in mind at all times! The game features a Motorbike Status Check (MSC) system that allows you to pause the race at any point to analyze what is going on with your machine. The system is crazily detailed, allowing players to see such stats as brake disc temperature, electronic settings, tire compound, and more.

The more you play, the more you understand the true depth of the system and the ways to change the settings of your vehicle to optimize its behavior for your race.

RiMS Racing features a variety of modes for players to tackle, both single-player and multiplayer.

The prime one is, of course, the career single-player mode. The developers are rightfully proud of the level of interactivity it provides to players. Hire your team, manage your race calendar, earn cash and opportunities with other manufacturers, upgrade your skills, and more. The career mode is ripe with opportunity and features an amazing intertwining of all systems of the game that leads to an impressive experience even in a preview build.

If you don’t want to enter the long haul of a career mode, you can also jump into a single race or private testing.

The multiplayer mode is just what you’d expect: online challenges, custom events such as race or cup, and more.

Despite the name of the game, calling RiMS Racing a racing sim would be a disservice due to the sheer amount of features that have nothing to do with speeding along a track.

If you are interested in being in control of every little detail on and off the track, including the pit stops, you will have an amazing time in the full version of the game.

However, if you are someone who just wants to race without constantly keeping a lot of information in mind and analyzing the behavior of your bike to optimize it more, you might want to look at other titles.

If you want to have the best possible experience, your machine has to handle RiMS Racing’s admittedly humble demands, especially considering the level of graphics it provides!
