November 2024 was surprisingly light on high-profile game releases. Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was released in October. All of the Game of the Year nominees have been spread smoothly across the timeline and are already out. Even Sony’s high-profile exclusives won’t be happening. So where does that leave us?

It is a horror action game from the creators of Silent Hill, Gravity Rush, and Siren. Play as the disembodied spirit Hyoki, who has no feelings or memories but the ability to inhabit people and a single obsession – ‘to destroy them all’. The story is about bloodthirsty Slitherhead monsters that cleverly hide in human form. The setting is the fictional Asian city of Kuolong, a prototype for a now-destroyed settlement in Hong Kong, where crime in all its forms flourished.
Together with Hyoki, you must run around the city, moving from body to body, finding and killing Slitherheads, and you can use animals as well as people. Humans’ physical abilities are considered, so it is better to choose young and athletic. Some characters also open up particularly strong possibilities for symbiosis. But in general, the bodies serve as expendable material, and Hyoki doesn’t care one bit about keeping them alive. Where this spirit comes from, and the motives behind his behavior will become clearer as you progress through the game.
