Name Changes Finally Coming to PSN

Poorly named gamers, rejoice! Name changes are finally making their way to the PlayStation Network. It’s been years in coming but the word has dropped on the Official PlayStation Blog.  To take part you’ll need to be signed up for the PlayStation 4 System Software Beta. If you’ve been accepted into the program, you’ll receive one name change free (accessible through your settings menu) with each subsequent change costing $9.99 for regular users and $4.99 for PlayStation Plus members.

Since it’s been such a long row to hoe getting to this point, there’s a good chance you have a whole friend network built around your old, terrible ID. Thankfully, you’ll have the option to display your old ID alongside your new one so crew can recognize you come your next Destiny raid. Just be aware, this is a one-time choice that can’t be enabled later.

The other key point, and probably what made this such a challenge, is that only games released after April 2018 will support Online ID Change. We’ve heard from Sony what a challenge this was due to how the PSN was designed and this appears to be the cost we’ll pay to finally receive name changes. That said, many major games released earlier than April will support Online ID Change, but we’ll have to take it on a case by case basis.

How about you, is this the feature you’ve been looking for? If so, what exactly is so bad about your name that you’d like to change it?
