Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen – The Making of Faerthale Update – Feb 18th, 2020

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

This past week the developers along with Twitch streamer CohhCarnage provided us with an inside look of Project Faerthale and one of the first raid zones. Along with this behind the scenes tour came a few more bit of information about the climbing system, the Codex, and acclimation. This is our Patheon; Rise of the Fallen livestream coverage for The Making of Faerthale on Feb 18th, 2020.

The team for this behind-the-scenes look included Chris “Joppa” Perkins – Creative Director, Jimmy Lane – World Builder, and Benjamin “Machail” Dean – Producer. The location is a small portion of Project Faerthale which Visionary Realms are using as their initial reference zone for the rest of the game.

They jumped right into showing the Oldwood, which looks amazing for a pre-alpha build, and features what the developers called a hero piece for the zone. Hero pieces create points of interest within a zone, for the Oldwood one such hero piece is Nay Hu the Spriggan who has taken root in the area. As a player approaches the perception system kicks in, depending on your level of perception you will have different options in a given area for discovering quests and other interesting information. If you are a player who enjoys quests and discovering lore/story then working on your perception level will be the way to go.

While exploring the area around Nay Hu Cohh noticed the ability to grab ledges and climb up. The developers explained that as your climbing skill increases a player will be able to find more climbing paths/ledges and it will be tougher for them to be knocked off while climbing due to damage.

The Codex functioning in the game was also shown for the first time, while still under heavy development you could see the system coming together. Certain skills will have empty nodes that can be upgraded using earned points. At this point in development, the limited action bar is set to 8 active skills with a smaller bar for 5 long-duration buffs. Again, as with many systems, the number of skills a player can have access to on the bar is still under discussion/development.

Next, the developers provided a new look at what they are calling the acclimation system. While exploring Pantheon you can enter zones/areas that have extreme weather. To reduce the difficulty/survive in these areas a player will need to acquire runes, via quests, and equip them on the acclimation inventory. To illustrate the acclimation system, we had our first real look at The Ilse of Infinite Storms, one of Pantheon’s raid zones. While most of the area is not finished you could see the winds buffeting the player character once the encounter was initiated. It wasn’t until the wind shear glyph/rune was equipped that movement around the arena became manageable.

The final sneak peek was of a new area still in a state of very early development with grey boxing for most of the main elements. It gave a good look at how your favorite levels in games start development before the polish and window dressing is added.
