Creative Assembly has just given us all a new look at the upcoming gameplay coming to Total War: Warhammer III with a global gameplay trailer, and there’s some unexpected gameplay waiting on the battlefield.
Dropped last night during a preview event, and available to watch in full over at the official Total War Youtube channel, the new global gameplay trailer is our first look at the gameplay fans of the series can look forward to. While still a work in progress, developers Creative Assembly dipped into Total War: Warhammer III’s Survival battles. A brand new game mode, Survival battles, are a new twist on the current Total War turn-based mechanics, dropping players into enemy territory and prompting them to go full tower defence mode.
Waves and Waves
Once deployed into hostile territory, Survival battles ask commanders to fortify their position. Supplies can be spent on a variety of barricades, projectile towers, traps, reinforcements, and buffs. While this all sounds very reactive, Survival isn’t all about the backfoot. Last night’s showcase confirmed that there are plenty of traditional Total War objectives, with Creative Assembly pushing across a ruined fort, capturing three points, and progressing deeper into enemy territory. This mix of traditional Total War tactical timing and incoming enemy waves is certainly an interesting new addition to the final part of the Total War: Warhammer franchise.
The third instalment in this series brings more than one new game mode to players. Anybody picking up the finale to the series will get to take control of the Kislev, Cathay, Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeench as playable new factions, try out the aforementioned Survival mode, and go to battle in expanded multiplayer modes. You can check out more over on the official Total War website before this campaign launches later this year.
