CD Projekt RED Takes a Look Back at 2019

CD Projekt RED’s sales revenue in 2019 is 44% more than in the preceding year, landing at 521 million PLN (roughly 125 million USD), mostly due to the sales of The Witcher 3 that had recently received Nintendo Switch version and the release of GWENT on mobile devices.

In 2019 the CD PROJEKT Group incurrent record expenditures on the development of new games and technologies, at 165 million PLN (39.5 million USD). On 31 December 2019, the Group’s cumulative balance of expenditures on development projects stood at 386 million PLN (92.3 million USD).

In the 2019 earnings group presentation, the company offered some interesting numerical data. The Witcher 3 sales saw a sudden rise in 2019, after the release of Netflix’s The Witcher series as well as the launch of the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

  • 2015: 9 471 830 copies sold; 29% digital, 71% physical distribution
  • 2016: 4 190 140 copies sold; 60% digital, 40% physical distribution
  • 2017: 4 401 408 copies sold; 74% digital, 26% physical distribution
  • 2018: 3 591 549 copies sold; 80% digital, 20% physical distribution
  • 2019: 6 619 718 copies sold; 82% digital, 18% physical distribution
  • Total: 28 274 645 copies sold.

The entire CD Projekt team switched to working from home since mid-March due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Despite that, the company is carrying on with all operations without major disruptions and is steaming towards the September release of Cyberpunk 2077.
