Blizzard Entertainment has announced their partnership with Titan Comics for a new comic book series set in the Diablo universe. I think we all needed to learn that Diablo franchize gets some love after it was completely absent from the latest BlizzCon and has been put on the shelf since the Rise of the Necromancer.
The comic books are written by prolific author Marv Wolfman (Blade, Crisis on Infinite Earths) and illustrated by Piotr Kowalski (Wolfenstein). Fans can expect a four-part miniseries that will make it to their hands in 2018.
The comics will follow a group of zealous scholars and crusaders as they discover the true origins of humanity. Will their faith survive these shocking revelations?
The sketches for the series features the demoness Lilith who, together with Archangel Inarius, was a progenitor of the race of Nephalem – half-angels, half-demons possessing a great power. It was believed that the age of the Nephalem was over, but few of them made a resurgence during Diablo 3. Could the comics lead to something greater for the franchize? New expansion set for D3? Diablo IV?
Come on, Blizzard, I still want to save Leah! She is the last link we have with Deckard Cain and she totally did not deserve what the game threw at her.
If that is entirely not enough comic book material for you, worry not, Blizzard has you!
The company has also announced a mini-series set within the StarCraft universe that was also left lacking after the Nova Special Ops series. Writer Jody Houser (Mother Panic, Faith) and artist Gabriel Guzmán (Mass Effect, Star Wars) to bring you Scavengers, a story of a young inexperienced farmer-turned-engineer who wants to pillage an ancient Protoss ship. Boy, oh boy if it doesn’t spell TROUBLE all over it.
Seen from the point of view of a young, inexperienced engineer, a group of terran space scavengers hope to pull off the job of their lifetimes, ignoring a recent United Earth Directorate treaty to pillage a derelict protoss ship. The scavengers’ dangerous plan is compounded by the fact that the protoss ship is in a decaying orbit above a backwater planet. If their time doesn’t run out and Dominion police forces don’t bust them, will protoss or zerg factions in the outer rim find and execute them?
Unclear if a mistake or not, but the Scavengers comic is currently available for pre-order on Kindle with the release date set to July 25th. Visit the links above to learn more and see some high-resolution Scavengers art.

Marv is iconic, he’s done so much more than the two titles listed. Hoping to have an interview with him in the near future.
