Given its immense popularity, there have always been rumors related to the Assassin’s Creed video game franchise. For instance, there were once rumors that an Assassin’s Creed game could have a gambling component to it. This could have opened the door to the game being played online for money or even having a presence in one of the many online casinos doing business these days. However, one of the more recent rumors about Assassin’s Creed contains some revealing and perhaps surprising information about the future of the franchise which is on its way to feudal Japan.
Fans of the series are already anticipating the release of Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, which is expected to be released sometime in 2024. It’s been announced that the setting for this game will be feudal Japan, providing an exciting and welcomed change of scenery for the franchise. However, there are rumors that Codename Red could be the last game in the series to adopt the role-playing game (RPG) setup that the franchise has embraced since Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017.
With the Origins game in 2017, Assassin’s Creed was able to create fresh and amazing worlds for players to explore, making their options within the game almost limitless. Subsequent games like Valhalla and Odyssey also followed the RPG formula, much to the delight of fans. But while Ubisoft has already confirmed that Codename Red will also be an RPG game, the other games the company has in development may switch things up.
In fact, these changes could be seen even before Codename Red comes out in 2024. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is scheduled to be released this October, will be on a smaller scale than some of the RPG games like Valhalla and Odyssey. The gameplay of Mirage could be similar to older games in the series, most notably Assassin’s Creed 2. Mirage is also the game that’s been rumored to have a gambling element to it.
In addition to switching up some of the gameplay, Assassin’s Creed will continue to bring players to new settings, both in time and space. As mentioned, Codename Red will bring players to feudal Japan. Meanwhile, Mirage will take place in 9th-century Baghdad, creating a return to the franchise’s Middle Eastern roots. However, the games that Assassin’s Creed has in development are expected to go far beyond the Middle East.
In addition to Codename in Feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Jade will be set during the Qin Dynasty in Ancient China. Meanwhile, Codename Hex will take players to 16th-century Europe, focusing on witch hunts that dominated that period of the Roman Empire. There could even be future Assassin’s Creed games that have a more modern setting, giving fans yet another twist.
While changes are certainly afoot for Assassin’s Creed, they will surely be welcomed changes for fans. There might be a move away from RPGs, new settings, and perhaps even a gambling element. There is also talk of an Assassin’s Creed Infinity hub that will continue to revolutionize the franchise. However, it’s all a part of Assassin’s Creed’s mission to continually provide new ideas, challenges, and themes for players. This formula is yet to disappoint fans, giving them much to look forward to in the future of the franchise.
