Battlefield 2042 Team Peeks Into 2023

Battlefield 2042 - 2023 Roadmap

EA and DICE have updated the Battlefield 2042 Battle Blog with an all-new post that peeks into the future. The post offers the community a look at some of what they can expect as 2023 rolls around, including updates coming in Season 3, a brief look at Season 4, game improvements, new features, and more. In addition, the team also reveals that Season 5 will be coming in 2023 and will be based on a battleground not seen since the Battlefield 4 era.

The post begins with a brief retrospective about how hard the team has work across all of its updates in 2022 and its pride in how it has “evolved and improved” the game. Developers remind players that there are several free-play events throughout December.

Starting now, players on Xbox and Steam will be able to jump into the action and check out the game free of charge, while PlayStation players will have a free access window later this month.

  • Xbox: Free Play Days, December 1-4
  • Steam: Free Weekend, December 1-5
  • PlayStation: Free Access, December 16-23

The post then goes on to discuss changes coming in Season 3. The community has been integral in changes to Manifest and Breakaway. According to the post, the remaining launch maps will be reworked based on this feedback. Those will come in future Seasons, with Discarded making its way back into the game in Season 4 and a later season for Hourglass.

Update 3.2 and Reintroducing Classes

Update 3.2 will be a big one for us with the reintroduction of Classes to Battlefield 2042. All our existing Specialists will be placed within defined roles with a set of gadgets and equipment that best suit their purpose on the battlefield. While we’re not revealing them today, our Season 4 Specialist will be placed within the Recon class. This will also be the final Specialist that we’re planning to bring to Battlefield 2042. With the return to Classes and our roster of 14 in total, we are happy with the number of Specialists. Each provides a variety of gameplay experiences. So our focus will be continuing to listen to your feedback to expand the sandbox in other ways.
