Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Blackout Battle Royale Mode

Blackout

Game Informer had a chance to take a trip to Treyarch to check out Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale mode known as Blackout. The site has a number of great articles with a lot of information regarding Blackout. If you wish to learn as much as you can, make sure to check how zombies are included in the mode and 195 rapid-fire questions about the mode.

Here is a quick overview of the information gathered by Game Informer:

  • Blackout will pit 80 players against one another. For comparison, PUBG and Fortnite have 100 players duking it out, while Battlefield V’s Firestorm will have 64.

What’s really more important to us than a number is that the gameplay experience is as refined as it can be, that’s it the ideal perfect format for what players are going to play. So we’re starting with 80 players, but we’ve gone higher than that. Whenever we launch a game as a beta or whatever, that’s the beginning of something. We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in. So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.”

  • There will be AI-controlled zombies that will be a serious danger to players, similar to the wolves in Fear the Wolves. Potentially, there might be other AI-controlled enemies.
  • Blackout could encompass more than one map, but it won’t be soon.
  • There will be many more characters added to Blackout after the launch. The game will start with about 20, some of them unlocked via special missions or by reaching a certain level.
  • You will be picking multiple types of armor and weapons scattered around the map. You can carry 2 primary weapons at once. There are melee weapons.
  • Blackout is a very fast-paced mode.
  • Beta feedback has a significant effect on the game: game tuning, item tuning, item distribution, progression rates, etc.
  • There is fall damage.
  • Currently, there are no emotes in Blackout, but they are planned.

The Blackout testing starts on September 10th on PS4, and on September 14th on Xbox One and PC via Battle.net.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled for release on October 12 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
