The team from Blizzard Entertainment has taken to the official site of hero shooter Overwatch 2 to share Season 2 retrospective. As the developers are gearing up for Season 3, it’s time to look back and reflect on the last season as well as give players a sense of where the game will be going in the future.
The team closely watched Ramattra, the latest character to join the roster of Overwatch 2, and asked themselves a variety of questions regarding his kit and community’s impressions of it as well as whether or not the character is performing up to par as players learn the ropes.
“Ramattra’s initial release was met with a lot of positive feedback in terms of fun factor. We saw a lot of great conversation around his kit and the overall design, but it was clear that you felt Ramattra wasn’t viable in enough situations.”
The developers have buffed his Nemesis form which had a large effect on Ramattra’s effectiveness and he entered competitive as one of the stronger Tank picks – a big shift from his lower performance leading up to the changes. As the Season wraps up, Ramattra remains a strong Tank choice so much so that he will get a small nerf in the upcoming Season: the timer on Annihilation will be changed so that it will tick down slower if enemies are in it (previously paused the timer entirely) and adding a cap of 20 seconds.
The team also took a look back at the Battle for Olympus as well as the Winter Wonderland and Lunar New Year events. There are rooms for improvement, including offering rewards that are new for all players consistently.
“In Season 3, we’re bringing back Overwatch Credits, which had been previously shown as Legacy Credits and been unearnable in Overwatch 2. Now, all players can earn up to 1500 credits as free rewards and another 500 credits as premium rewards spread throughout Season 3 Battle Pass. We are also adding more uses for your Credits so you can choose from many potential rewards.”
Nearly all the epic and legendary skins prior to OW2’s launch will be available in the Hero Gallery for purchase with either Overwatch Coins or Credit, including the skins from seasonal event modes that you might have missed out on. Additionally, the standard price of these legendary skins will be lowered to 1500 Coins or Credits, making it so all players can earn a legendary skin of their choice each season from the Hero Gallery skins just for playing normally and without needing to make any purchases.
