Platinum Games is bringing Sol Cresta to PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch later this year
In something of a double bluff, Platinum games put out a tweet yesterday that had us here at Gamespace thinking they were busy with April Fools. As it happens, it seems that their announcement that the team behind games like Bayonetta and Nier: Automata are actually planning to bring an arcade classic to the Nintendo switch. According to the seemingly silly tweet yesterday and subsequent follow ups, the Japanese developer is set to launch Sol Cresta onto the Nintendo Switch.
#SolCresta, the first title in PlatinumGames' NeoClassic Arcade series, is coming in 2021 to Nintendo Switch, PS4 & Steam!

For those of you that aren’t as old as I, Sol Cresta is a top down retro shump style adventure that looked to be something of a follow up to Terra Cresta, a 1980s vertical scrolling arcade shooter. As you’d expect this mostly involved jumping in a spaceship and flying through a range of levels to blow up a variety of more powerful enemies using skill and the occasional power up.
Alongside the confirmation, we have a trailer, which you can have a gander at above, for the upcoming project. We don’t have a huge amount of other detail about the project since we all assumed it was just a tongue in cheek joke. Chantal announcement for this title landed back on 1 April 2020 when Platinum revealed the game as a joint project between themselves and hamster corp. After laughing it off last year, Platinum doubled down with confirmation this year, and it looks like we’re all going to be jumping into space to blow up some aliens after all. If you want to find out more about this retro homage then keep an eye on the official Platinum Games website for more details on Sol Cresta.
