Flexispot’s Ergonomic Chair Pro (OC14) Review

Recently, we reviewed the Flexispot Comhar Pro Standing Desk. This week, we have a matching chair! While gaming chairs were all the rage this past decade, I have been looking into office chairs specifically to include in my gaming setup. Racing chairs these days just feel a little overpriced, cheaply made, and aren’t really that comfortable after a few months. Thankfully, Flexispot also sells an ergonomic office chair: the Ergonomic Chair Pro OC14. If this chair’s quality is anything like their standing desk, we should be in for a real treat. Keep on reading to find out our first impressions.

Assembly (+ Cat)

Like their other products, Flexispot puts a much higher focus on product quality than they do packaging. There are no bows or frills here, the OC14 Ergonomic Chair Pro arrived in a standard, rectangular, brown cardboard box, packed to the heavens with throwaway goodies that my cat immediately got to work on disposing of. A few tosses of tape down the hallway and shredded styrofoam later, and we were ready to start assembling.

One of my biggest gripes with chair assembly is the instructions. I’ll be honest, the instructions weren’t that fantastic for this one. Even though I told myself I wasn’t going to put the bottom of the seat on backwards, low and behold, I did. There aren’t any directions on the parts showing you which way the pieces go, so you’re just kind of guessing based on the black and white pictures.

I easily spent an hour and a half trying to put this chair together, simply because there weren’t enough steps. What I mean to say is that it felt like some extra assembly steps were cut in favor of fewer, more difficult steps that require two people. If you live alone, or with an unhelpful animal companion, prepare yourself to spend a little extra time putting it together. With a partner, you probably won’t have as many issues.

Professional Aesthetic

First impressions on aesthetic: the OC14 has a very professional look. For those that just want a no-nonsense office chair that will fit in with the rest of their office setup, this will probably appeal to you. The chair I received was all black, and I was fairly happy with this color because the rest of my gaming setup is white and black. All matchy matchy! If I were to purchase another chair for my setup, however, I might go with the gray and white color choice. It looks very clean and would match my white standing desk better.

Comfort

I love the silky, mesh material that covers the OC14 because it is very breathable and comfortable. However, for a cat owner, this chair is a huge fur magnet. I’m not sure if it’s the static of the mesh material, but with the OC14 especially in the color black, I just could not stop going over it with a lint brush. This wouldn’t be an issue in a work office, but it’s definitely one for an at home pet owner. I don’t think I’ve ever had another chair that clings to fur so much! It can be a little annoying when you’re wearing black for a video call, and get up covered in it because you didn’t realize you fuzzy companion took a cat nap there earlier during breakfast.

The seat on the other hand…

As far as comfort, there were some pros and cons for me. After sitting in the OC14 for several hours of working and gaming, my back felt just fine. The back frame is actually really nice, featuring a combination of PU soft plastic and hard plastic. It automatically adjusts depending on how much pressure you place directly on it. My rear and side however, weren’t as impressed. I think it’s entirely up to your preference, but I didn’t really get to the point where I could just forget that I was sitting in the chair. I was constantly aware of a slight pressure on my hips due to hard plastic at the edge of the narrow seat frame. The rest of the seat is fine, except for where I needed the relief. Someone with smaller hips might not find issue with it, but this gal definitely did.

Headrest and Armrests

The Ergonomic Pro Chair's headrest.

When fully extended, the Ergonomic Pro Chair’s headrest fit me just perfectly.

At first, I was concerned that the headrest on the OC14 might not be tall enough. Since I’m tall and have a longer torso, in the default position the neck rest doesn’t do me much good. But, ah-hah! It’s adjustable. Pulling the headrest into the tallest position was just the perfect height. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten any legitimate use out of a headrest when I’m working, except for when I’m reclining during lunch, but it’s nice to have it all the same when you’re taking a break.

While you can’t push the armrests back and forth, you can tilt them in and out for a customized fit depending on how you work. I personally like tilting my armrests in towards my body since my elbows rest closer to my body when typing. The height of the armrests were perfect, as well. I’ve used a few chairs in the past where the armrests juuust didn’t quite reach my elbows and I could never rest them properly. The OC14’s armrests fits my lower arms perfectly at max height.

Smooth and Silent

The bottom chassis of the Ergonomic Pro Chair is heavy duty and the wheels are smooth on carpet.

Last but not least, probably one of my unexpected favorite features is the chassis. Since I operate on carpet, the smoothness of my ride matters a lot, and the OC14 doesn’t disappoint. With an aluminum alloy chassis, it glides very easily across my carpeted floor and doesn’t provide much resistance when I need to get up and scream into the void. The base is incredibly heavy (probably one of the heaviest parts of the chair) so I never had to worry about the chair tipping over when I stood up, or when a noise frightened my chat and she lept from the seat and sprinted out of the room. All in all, very nice.

Final Thoughts

The largest concern of all for me personally, is the price. The flat rate of the OC14 Ergonomic Chair Pro is $599.99. I had a lot of negative parts to point out, but overall the OC14 is a very solid choice for an office chair. However, I don’t know that all of the included features are necessarily held up by the price. There are far too many plastic parts and working pieces for me to think that it is worth that much. If there had been a little better material on the armrests and the seat was more comfortable – maybe.

However, the plastic pieces do not give me confidence that the chair will last past a year and a half. Which, coincidentally, they do have a 1 year warranty. If you find that it breaks down on you in that time period you could definitely contact customer service. I don’t mind buying chairs again if I like them for that period of time, especially if they come with a warranty, but $599.99 is a lot to ask if it isn’t going to hold up for a long time. With that being said, Flexispot always has some amazing deals going on. Currently, you can get this chair for $429.99 which is much more reasonable.

Good
  • Sleek and professional look
  • Soft, mesh material
  • Quiet, smooth on carpet
  • Nice ergonomic adjustments: armrests and neckrest
  • 1 year warranty
Bad
  • Expensive for the quality of parts
  • Cat hair magnet!
  • Sturdy, but longevity is questionable
  • Uncomfortable seat for those with wider hips
  • Frustrating assembly for one person
