Out The Box
Usually, getting any item from Flexispot out the box is a monumental affair. Check out our build of the E7Q ODIN, for example. The BS12 Pro, however comes with just a few parts. The cardboard containers is at least as wide as the seat itself, at around 50cm, and just as tall. That does mean that there is plenty of room for the backrest, chair, gas lift, headrest, stand, caster wheels, screws, and instructions. Everything is minimally wrapped and mostly pre built. While that means the fabric backed frame is sealed in cellophane, there isn’t much else in the way of waste to get in the way of unboxing and building the Flexispot BS12 Pro.
Build
Construction should, in essence, be easier than slotting a Secretlabs or generic equivalent together. Eleven screws barely seem like enough to even label this as an effort. The lightweight tension fabric and moulded plastic frame even feel featherweight compared to equivalent layers of steel and cold foam. Where other oversized racing buckets are a workout to assemble, this is a breeze to handle.
Despite this, the included instructions could do with some work. While every desk we’ve had from Flexispot comes with coded screw packs and full color instructions, the tiny paper insert could have made it clear that a far more useful video version exists on the Flexispot YouTube channel. Check this source out and the 30 minutes or so that it took me to slot the back, bottom, arms, gas lift, base, and headset to each other will likely be less than half that.
The End Result
Once slotted together and all nine scres simply wound in, the Flexispot BS12 Pro is surprisingly comfortable to sit in. It might seem like it would take some time for your ass to acclimatise to the lack of padding. This is not the case. Hopping off my own throne of foam onto the BS12 Pro was a breeze. The suspended Korean Wintex Mesh is substantially more robust than the high tension mesh of similar designs. I’m not the girthiest gamer by far and I pretty much perched on the breathable tension mounted weave.
While It might not include the same level of padding as an oversized League tie in, it doesn’t have to protect an owner’s lower half from a steel frame. The soft weave fabric manages to feel comfortable and welcoming without losing support. Unlike plastic alternatives, it doesn’t;’t feel harsh or unduly irritating. Gamers jumping into long dungeon runs might crush a break bar, but the chair won’t make you sweat. Similarly, the back of this model incorporates the same Wintex mesh, to keep both cool and comfortable.
Where the BS12 Pro stands out, however is its customization. Nestled on the right hand side of this chair are three intuitive buttons that control all the major features of the BS12 Pro, and there’s a lot more than height to tinker with. While this item might not have the lie flat functionality of other gaming equivalents, it does manage a full 135 degrees of tilt. That’s more than enough if you still expect to see the screen. The adjustable headrest already makes it more comfortable than the traditional clip-on neck cushion, while an adjustable depth option isn’t something you’ll find in most RGB enhanced alternatives. The inclusion of 3D arm rests and an adjustable lumbar support, which slides up and down the back of the mesh, just puts this a rank above my other options.
Overall Impressions
There isn’t a whole lot to say about the Flexispot BS12 Pro, and that’s because it really doe it’s job well. This sleek plastic and metal construction slides into place , in a subdued manner. The curved backpiece and angled edges of the arm rest are eye catching, but neve overstated. The simple three button control system speak to the usability for most owners, while the Korean Vax mesh weave and customizable lumbar support do a great job and keeping cool under a ton of pressure. It would be great if the lumbar support had a little more movement in multiple directions, but the Flexispot BS12 Pro should never be judged against the average gaming chair. This is leagues apart.
