Hardspace Shipbreaker PC Review

Hardspace: Shipbreaker

Games that matter far or not so far in the future are very rarely optimistic in their forecasts the standard set: contains megacorporations, the devaluation of life, haunts the environment, and a terrible economic situation, and usually we find ourselves in the shoes of the Heroes of Ku’s success walking on corpses or deciding the fate of all around…

But in Hardspace – The situation of a shipwreck, here we are offered to try on the role of a simple worker trying to survive in a cruel world, although the standard cyberpunk of the future is found here in full.

In the yard of the twentieth-fourth century, people are still exposed to difficult and dangerous work, because it is very profitable for the corporation’s wallet. And we turned out to be such a cog specialist, got day after day in the same scenery to dismantle various space ships: an exolaboratory packed to capacity with expensive components, a heavy tugboat, or a capacious station shuttle.

What awaits us in our new home in outer space

So everything in the world is so bad that the nameless protagonist had to arrange a dismantling of the spaceships of a large company in order to somehow make ends meet, and we are faced with an incredibly simple task: take contracts, dismantle until there is nothing left, rest, and again.

Risk is key because if you happen to accidentally grab some cargo in your face and die, it will cost you a lot of money, leading you to go into even more debt to pay it off.

Hardspace 2

The whole process of parsing, disassembled – threw it towards the portal, as soon as it flies into the portal, money is transferred to you. All the time, you can disassemble all sorts of shuttles to shuttles for spare parts and distribute everything received into three types, everything valuable and working type

a computer in an engine and other things in one direction, simple materials and garbage in the second, and various expensive super polymers in the third.

Of course, no shift is complete without the right set of tools. With the help of a cutter, we disassemble the skin and carefully saw out the components, with a harpoon we can quickly attract to the ship or interact with the sawn-off parts of the ship. And of course, how can such work be without the most delicate and refined tool – explosives! It’s really worth using it wisely. And of course the scanner.

Each milestone gives you experience to level up. This gives you access to scrapping bigger and better ships, as well as access to various equipment upgrades. It can increase the range of your laser, cool it down faster, allows you to push larger objects, carry additional charges, unlock a controlled demolition charge, and more.

It is unlikely that you will be able to do your job at a high professional level the first time. To begin with, you have to become more adept, fill your hand, learn the delicate craft of a carver by trial and bitter mistakes, and, of course, comprehend the finest nuances of handling equipment. Let’s say, to find out by experience that it is not necessary to immediately cut the ship’s hull because there is an entrance lock. In practice, any mistake of a hard worker-experimenter will only lead to financial losses of the corporation, which will be compensated at his own expense.

However, over time – and after a dozen unsuccessful work shifts – there will finally be a comprehension of many aspects of the craft. We will begin to understand the structure of ships, find out the location of fuel tanks, use consumables wisely, and distinguish expensive panels from low-grade scrap. With this knowledge, you can again move on to experiments, coming up with your own cunning manipulations and non-obvious ways to do the job better. After all, otherwise, as in life, there is a risk of drowning in a vicious routine.

Getting around in zero gravity is extremely difficult – though maybe my brain can’t do the job of navigating 3D without really understanding which way is up. Since all of your movement comes from the jetpack on your suit, you also have to deal with a lot of momentum. You can use fuel to stop yourself, but it will still take a little time. This makes even the routine task of returning for oxygen fill-up stressful at first, as it is not easy to get where you need to go.

It’s like a game, but like work!

Show miracles of resourcefulness and engineering innovation will be in several general modes, which determine the complexity and degree of realism of Hardspace: Shipbreaker. For example, in the most severe version, we will not have additional lives (duplicate clones), and if, due to an awkward maneuver, we are dragged into the processing compartment, then the whole game will have to start over. In a slightly softer mode, thirty possible revivals are provided, which gives the right to make a mistake.

In addition to choosing the general principles of the gameplay, we have to decide how we are going to work: in a “career”, “free play” or in the “S.P.O.R.T. for cutters. In the first, we find ourselves in the role of a simple hard worker, which is pretty much indebted to the Lynx Corporation, and after that, we will find out if we can get out of this debt hole.

Graphics

The overall visual representation turned out to be pretty good. I would especially like to note how carefully and in detail the interiors of the ships are worked out – whether military, cargo, or scientific. Another success is the local industrial “beauties”, which perfectly contrast with the large-scale background of the boundless space, and the picturesque view of the Earth and the Moon.

Summary
Despite the fact that Hardspace: Shipbreaker can be called a high-quality and unusual project, it is quite difficult to recommend it to everyone and everyone. This is a very peculiar simulator for diligent, it takes time before you start to get any pleasure from it. But if you really like projects that reward meticulousness and glorify the simple work of ordinary people, then you will certainly like Hardspace: Shipbreaker.

  1. I love this game. Where you see monotony I find a peaceful, zen-like state as I methodically disassemble ships. At least until I cut through something that goes boom. It’s hard to argue about the lack of co-op and the number of bugs though. And it does take a little while to get used to movement in a 3-D weightless environment, but I find that enjoyable.
