Okay, so you’ve been watching the chaos ensuing on the Disney Dreamlight Valley Discord for weeks now, and you’ve been trying to tide yourself over with Animal Crossing New Horizons gameplay until the day Dreamlight Valley inevitably takes over your life. You’ve settled on Steam as your preferred platform and are raring to go…BUT WAIT. What’s this? There’s an Avatar Designer Tool!
The Avatar Designer Tool was originally meant for players to get a glimpse at all the avatar and wardrobe customizations before launch, but there’s also a promotion available for an adorable spirit jersey if you use it before you purchase the game. However, Steam being Steam, things go a little wonky if you try to do things out of order (like purchasing the game, and then going back to do the Avatar Designer Tool).

Download the Avatar Designer Tool
Before you do ANYTHING else, download the Avatar Designer Tool on Steam. Some people have had problems searching for it on the Steam store now that the game has launched, so go to the Disney Dreamlight Valley store page and click to download the Avatar Designer Tool.
Launch and Create your Character
Launch the Avatar Designer Tool and create your character! Choose the items you like most because when you begin the game, the rest of the items will be locked and you’ll have to either find them in the world over time or purchase them from a certain money-hungry duck.

Strike a pose!
Why not, have a little fun while you’re at it? The clothes you wear have a chance to summon a specific Disney/Pixar character, so take a pic with your little friend.
Generate Your Avatar Code
Go back to the main menu and click Avatar Code. This code will only last you for 24 hours, so make sure you use it in time! Otherwise, you’ll have to go back and regenerate it.
Steep, but definitely worth it.
Purchase a Dreamlight Valley Bundle
With your Avatar Code in hand, you can now proceed to purchase any of the Disney Dreamlight Valley bundles. I purchased the Ultimate Bundle since it has a lot of the in-game currency included and I have a tendency to nickel and dime my way to that price anyway. Five-to-ten dollars at a time adds up!
Enter Your Code!
After you download and start-up Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll be prompted to create a new character and have the option to import your avatar code. This is where you’ll input the code you generated! You should now see all the goodies you chose before and be ready to start your journey.
