Brutal combat is definitely something that The Surge has in spades. Whether it’s taking out an enemy with a chainsaw or hacking off a body part, the game showcases hardcore fights.

In a new behind-the-scenes trailer today, the Deck13 team discusses the ins and outs of the combat system as well as the sci-fi setting of the game.
The sci-fi setting lends itself to the combat system that designers envisioned from the start. The Surge features a healthy dose of relevant real-world issues such as environmental destruction and the misuse of technology. It’s a setting that invites exploration and infiltration to discover well-hidden secrets. Along the way, players will fight through crazed employees of “the corporation” as well as robots gone wild.
The unique system of “limb-based targeting” also shines in The Surge. Not only can players exploit weaknesses in opponents, but they can hack off body (technically suit) parts to take home for themselves.
It’s a fantastic look at how the game was developed as well as how the team’s vision became reality.
