Factorio Release Date Moved Due to CyberPunk 2077

The developers from Wube Software have announced a new release date for their upcoming fabric building simulation Factorio. The game will be coming to PC via Steam on August 14th, 2020 instead of the original plan of September 2020. The move is related to the release of CyberPunk 2077 that is slated to happen a week earlier than the game’s initial launch date. Between the two choices of either bringing Factorio forth before or after Cyberpunk, the developers decided on former and sped the release up by 5 weeks.

The main reason to change the release date is the release of Cyberpunk 2077.In January this year, CD Projekt Red announced a delay to the release of Cyberpunk 2077, to September 17th, 1 week before our Factorio 1.0 launch. We think any release close to such a monumental game is going to feel some negative effects, such as everybody playing and covering Cyberpunk and taking attention away from other games.

Of course, CD Projekt RED’s game is not the only reason Factorio is coming earlier than expected. Some of the goals for the final release have been cancelled, postponed or cut and the work on the game has been progressing at a good pace. The original estimated release date was made with the concession for delays but the team has been working effectively and most things have not been taking longer than expected.
