EA and Dice have announced that the Leviathan Rising in-game event is primed and ready to roll starting today in Battlefield 2042. The event will run from today through April 25th and includes a number of new activities for players. These include Shutdown Mode and a host of unlockable cosmetic items. Players can even pick up some free goodies from the in-game store and check out some brand new paid bundles.
Developers released a new trailer to give the community a peek into the mayhem that Shutdown Mode will bring to the game.
So what is Shutdown Mode?

Think you know everything about close-quarters combat? Think again. Welcome to Shutdown, where time is not your ally, only your squad is. Work as one unit and operate with confidence, and dominate your enemy in two rounds to claim victory:
- Attack, Plant & Protect – Infiltrate enemy objectives & plant the Lances; a new mode objective in Shutdown, protect them, and score as many points as possible.
- Defend, Locate & Disable – Locate and eliminate Lance Carriers, prevent their dropped Lances from being picked up, and defuse any that do get planted, with prejudice.
- Master these objectives, and you’ll be unstoppable. Class-play is imperative in this 8v8 small-scale infantry focused experience. No one gets left behind. Make every move count. Your squad depends on it.
Several new mechanics are live in Shutdown. Players will need to pay close attention to The Lance, a portable microwave device that can fry data in a limited area. It’s up to Attackers to get that bad boy planted and then run like heck. Defenders, of course, are charged with disabling it and chasing down the perps. If Attackers successfully place the Lance, the objective is completely removed from the map.
But that’s not where the fun ends. Once the first round is successfully completed, Attackers and Defenders swap sides, and it begins again.
