It’s not often that we see one game about B17 bombers let alone four! Microprose has announced five new games with four of them centered squarely on the iconic WW2-era bombers. The fifth game is a sandbox world where players can create to their hearts’ content.
Let’s take a look at the next five games from Microprose:
- Outerra World Sandbox lets you play and create the world that you want. It uses multiple data sources to populate the earth’s terrain, roads, buildings, forests, and waterways. It’s up to you to see where it goes from there. Walk, Drive, Sail, Fly or Freecam to anywhere on earth. Mold the world following a fantasy or a serious project you have in mind. Share your results with the world.
- Bomber 3 – Put yourself in the captain’s seat of a B-17 bomber, select your plane, select your crew and plot your path over war-torn Europe. Watch your elevation, watch your formation, and watch very carefully where you were over the target. This classic was a bestseller in the early 1990s.
- B17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux – The missions undertaken by the crews of B-17 bombers during World War II are the stuff of legend. What was it like to fly through relentless anti-aircraft fire over Nazi-occupied Europe? What was it like to have a thin layer of steel between life and death at 15,000 feet? How did it feel to furiously fend off enemy fighters zipping around your plane and then to precisely deliver your payload over enemy targets?
- The Mighty 8th VR – Imagine yourself inside a B-17 flying over enemy-held Europe on your way to Germany. Deadly Me-109s and FW-190s are hunting you, bullets ripping through the wings and the fuselage of your Flying Fortress. Smoke fills the cabin. You glance out the window to see flames licking the wing.
- B17 Flying Fortress: The Bloody 100th – This is the third game in the critically acclaimed series. The game recreates many of the aspects of the real-life struggles that WWII allied bomber crews faced. From the briefings to landings players will face the arduous, nerve-wracking challenge of delivering payloads deep behind enemy lines against nearly impossible odds.
