Magic Meets Modern Shibuya in Reynatis

Check out the stunning trailer for upcoming RPG Reynatis

NIS just announced a brand new RPG that will bring magic to the streets of modern day Tokyo, and it’s utterly stunning. NIS has announced a new RPG Western original concept, new characters and adventure that spans the world of magic and reality. I learned last night with a brash new trailer, Reynatis follows the plight of the wizard Marin as they head into the bustling cityscape of Shibuya.

On a quest to garner freedom through strength, they come into contact with Sari, an officer of the MEA, an organization dedicated to keeping wizards under control. Under the guise of a regular civilian, players picking up this adventure will be able to explore the city as a regular civilian. Take in the sights, get to know the locals, and shop among the stories, outlets, and Izakaya s. Plenty or quests are littered among the blazing neon signs for you to choose from. It’s all a little reminiscent of the backdrop for The World Ends With You and Ghostwire Tokyo, but will hopefully play out in its own unique way.

Being a magical miscreant, however, you’ll be able to use your explosive powers to reach new locations and battle those who stand in your way. The details of what that actually means for the narrative and how it unfolds are scant at best. The reveal trailer seems to suggest an action combat system where a variety of fantasy and modern day weapons give characters a number fo ways to channel their powers.

As much as I love a bit of Tales of, it’s great to see a new IP coming out of NIS and heading west. If you’re as enthused as I am then Reynatis will arrive in Fall 2024 and launch across Nintendo Switch™, PS4, PS5, Steam. Check out more on the official website now.
