Square Enix has announced that nearly six thousand Final Fantasy XIV accounts have been banned due to “participation in RMT/prohibited activities” and “RMT advertising”. The accounts were found to be in violation of the Terms of Service that prohibits real-money transactions that “upset the balance of the game”. Between February 25th and March 3rd, 5,037 accounts were terminated for participating in real-money transactions and other prohibited activities. During the same time frame, 814 accounts were terminated for advertising real-money transactions.
MMO players who see others participating in or advertising RMT are urged to submit a report about the offending player accounts. According to the article on the FFXIV official site, reports are as easy as right-clicking the player’s name and “report RMT/cheating activity”.
We will continue to take stringent disciplinary action against any accounts with confirmed involvement in RMT/illicit activity; players should take care to steer clear of any activity that violates the Terms of Service.
