SURPRISE! Skull and Bones Delayed Again

Skull and Bones Delayed to 2024

During the recently held Ubisoft financial earnings call, it was revealed that the highly-anticipated Skull and Bones is being delayed yet again. According to financial documents, players won’t see the pirate-themed game until 2024. The Ubi team blamed the delay on the underperformance of Mario + Rabbids Spark of Hope and Just Dance 2023. Since its announcement in 2018, SnB has been delayed a whopping five times. That means each and every year since it was announced, the game has been delayed.

The much-delayed game is becoming something of a joke with The Verge writing, “*Fozzie Bear voice* Why do they call it Skull and Bones? Because that’s all that’ll be left by the time the game launches! Wocka wocka.”

Officially, Ubisoft wrote, “Players will be able to discover the beauty of Skull and Bones in the upcoming beta phase. The additional time has already paid off and brought impressive improvements to its quality, which has been confirmed by recent playtests. We believe players will be positively surprised by its evolution. We have decided to postpone its release in order to have more time to showcase a much more polished and balanced experience and to build awareness. Skull and Bones will now be released early 2023-24”

If the delay of Skull and Bones wasn’t enough, Ubi also announced that three unannounced games have been canceled. BluesNews opines that this means these “were not from its biggest brands.” The cancellations are described as “part of a set of measures dedicated to strengthening its (Ubisoft’s) long-term growth and value-creation prospects.”

The silver lining in the Ubi call is the announcement that the new Avatar game, Assassin’s Creed, and other “yet-to-be-announced premium games” will be making it out the gate in 2023-2024.
