Total War Warhammer 2 was released recently for PC. It came with a new map, new objectives and access to two new races; the Skaven and the Lizardmen. Following that Creative Assembly recently released the free DLC to those who own both Total War: Warhammer I & II. The Mortal Empires campaign seeks to have all of the races from both games fighting it out over a massive land mass. At Twitchcon I had a chance to sit down and talk with James Given Outreach Manager for Creative Assembly about Mortal Empires.
Total War Warhammer 2 Mortal Empires
MMORPG: Total War Warhammer 2 just came out not too long ago, how has it done so far?
James: It’s going pretty well. One of our highest rated games for our studio. It’s gone down really, really well with our fans. Adding quite a lot into a different kind of campaign in the narrative of the Vortex, changing it up a little differently. And now with Mortal Empires, even more so.
MMORPG: You have the Vortex Campaign in Warhammer II; how does Mortal Empires change up things?
James: So, in Mortal Empires what we have is a fusion of the Old World and the New World. So, you’ll be able to play Warhammer 1 in the Old World and the New World together. Basically, if you look Warhammer fantasy universe and the world, you pretty much got all of in there in Mortal Empires. You’ve got a big chunk of the Old World. And then we’ve also got Naggorath and all that stuff and it’s all free if you own Warhammer 1 & 2.
MMORPG: Are you planning on adding more later for Mortal Empires?
James: I believe so, I think we’ll be adding in plenty of stuff into that. We’ll be looking to expand upon what we have in Mortal Empires. It’s going to be the ultimate sandbox experience when it comes to a Total War game.
MMORPG: With Mortal Empires, the Vortex isn’t involved, it’s the normal campaign mode correct?
James: It’s the bread and butter of Total War playing Massive, massive world of the Warhamemr fantasy universe. But now with almost every landmass of the world, all the significant landmasses of the world. So, you’ll be able to play in all of that with all the factions in there as well.
MMORPG: How has the reception been for the two newest races added to the series, the Skaven and the Lizardmen?
James: Everyone loves the Skaven, because they are a very unique faction. The lizardmen strangely enough play very conventional. Personally, they are one of my favorite factions. How can you not enjoy pushing one of your rights and spawn stacks of Carnosaurs and watching them go wild?
MMORPG: Any last words for our readers?
James: If you’ve never played a Total War game before, Warhammer 2 is a great place to start. We’ve had a massive rework of the tutorial system. If you don’t want to play by yourself, you can play co-op and all play as the same faction. You can always play with friends.
