Studio Wildcard has had a busy month and today’s ARK: Survival Evolved announcements prove the point. First came news of an animated series followed by an expansion release on Switch.
First up is the revelation of the new animated season one series trailer. The upcoming series features an impressive voice cast, including Michelle Yeoh, Russell Crow, and Gerard Butler and is directed by Fast & Furious franchise star Vin Diesel.
In a sweeping story that spans eons of human & world history, 21st-century paleontologist Helena Walker finds herself resurrected on a mysterious, primeval land after a tragedy. There she must learn to survive and find new allies or die again at the hands of ruthless warlords — all while trying to uncover the true nature of their strange new world.
The series will be broadcast on a streaming platform in 2023 though it is unknown where it will ultimately land.
ARK fans will also be pleased to hear that the Survival of the Fittest battle royale mode has landed in the game. Up to 60 players take part in an epic fight to be the last one standing. The prototype experience is available for PC players via Steam. Developers plan to make it a cross-play feature with consoles in 2023.
Switch players have new experiences to enjoy thanks to the arrival of the Aberration expansion. New content includes brand new creatures to find, a zipline to enjoy, and “sci-fi underwater biomes” to explore. This is the second expansion for the Switch version, the first of which is Scorched Earth, a desert biome. Aberration is a free update to the Survivor’s Edition of the game or the game’s Season Pass. Players can also purchase the Ultimate Survivor Edition Upgrade and receive the expansion.
Switch players will also want to check in for the Winter Wonderland in-game event running through January 5th. During the event, players can leverage boosted rates, loot-filled presents, and collect a dozen chibis along the way. This is the very first in-game event since the launch of the game on Switch.
