Bioware Shares Update on Dragon Age Production

Last month, the team of developers from Bioware shared a blog post that offered a look back on 2021 and gave a few glimpses of information regarding the future of the Dragon Age and the Mass Effect franchises. Now the studio is back with another update, this time looking forward.

Gary McKay, Bioware studio general manager, took to the official site to reveal a bit of behind-the-scenes of the game development. There are a few different stages to it: first, there are the concept and pre-production phases when the team works on the creative vision and starts laying down technical foundations. Once this blueprint is complete, the production stage begins. Eventually, the team hits Alpha and Beta and works on polish.

With its blueprint finished last year, the new Dragon Age game is in the middle of its Production stage. The team is now focused on building out its vision: creating amazing environments, deep characters, strong gameplay, impactful writing, emotional cinematics – and much more. The blueprint for the game is well understood and the team is focused.

“The game’s Production Director is Mac Walters, who recently led the development for Mass Effect Legendary Edition and has an 18-year history with BioWare. Corrine Busche, who has been leading the design direction for Dragon Age, is our Game Director. She has a wealth of experience, including 15 years at EA, and a passion for the franchise. Benoit Houle is the Director of Product Development, and he brings an in-depth understanding of the franchise thanks to having worked on every single Dragon Age game – starting over 16 years ago on Dragon Age: Origins.”

Bioware’s MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic just celebrated its 10th anniversary and the release of the latest expansion, Legacy of the Sith. Meanwhile, the studio is also working on the next Mass effect, with the team led by Mike Gamble.
