Brandon Sanderson, a beloved fantasy and sci-fi writer that penned such amazing sagas as Mistborn and Stormlight Archive, shared a new video on his official Youtube channel titled “It’s Time to Come Clean”. Despite a somewhat foreboding name, it is not at all what you might think.
In the video, the author addressed the change in his schedule, especially the traveling part of it, brought by the pandemic and what it meant for his writing. And what it meant is four new novels written in two years that no one in the community knew about. In doing so, Brandon Sanderson effectively beat all the community’s fond poking at his non-stop writing and reached new heights.
“It was strange to realize, at the start of the pandemic, just how much I was relieved by not being forced to travel–and how much I’d started to dread certain aspects of my job. By luck, I was able to have the time to take the steps I needed in order to prevent burnout. Yes, I’m a little strange in that the thing that most helps me most in such situations is writing something completely different, something unexpected. It probably seems incongruous that I avoid burnout by doing more work–but I truly love telling stories. So, here we are!”
