Competitive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players will be interested in a new post detailing ranked play in Season 02. The lengthy post lays out any detail a competitive player would want to know ahead of the season’s beginning. The new ranked system was developed between Treyarch and Infinity Ward and brings the most skilled CoD:MW players a lot to look forward to. Innovations include a Rank System overhaul, how Rank and Skill Divisions are represented, Skill Rating Forgiveness, and Demotion Protection.
To showcase all the epic things coming in Season 02, devs released a 4-minute trailer.
Competitive matches in Ranked Play are officially 4v4 and follow the same rule set as the Call of Duty League. These rules include the same restrictions, maps, and modes. Players can expect that when changes are made to the League, they will also be made in MW2. Players will need to be at least Level 16 to participate but Ranked Play will offer unrestricted items (including weapons and attachments) to bring those at the lowest levels into parity with higher-level players.
There are three match types, each with five maps they can take place on. Players will battle through Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control. The more matches won, the higher a player will go in the Ranked Play Divisions. Divisions are based on the player’s Skill Rating and include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Crimson, Iridescent, and Top 250.
A player’s Skill Rating is based mainly on the result of every match played. Simply put, win the match to gain SR. Lose the match, and lose SR. Individual performance and a team’s overall performance will impact the amount of SR gained or lost. In higher Skill Divisions, more emphasis will be put on team performance. This ensures all winning playstyles are rewarded.
Other notable components of Ranked Play
- All players begin as a Bronze Ranked player
- Players can bring up to three squadmates into each match if they fall within a certain Skill Division threshold
- At the end of each Season, a player’s highest Skill Division determines what rewards are earned and where they’ll be placed next season
- Ranked Play matches won’t begin if teams are uneven
- If a player disconnects or quits in the middle of a match, all team members outside that player’s party will NOT lose SR
- Penalties and suspensions will be assessed to those who habitually quit, disconnect, idle, or use friendly fire too often
The post then goes on to detail the reward system. It’s well worth the time to swing by the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 official site to check it out.
