Dead by Daylight Getting Huge Graphics Upgrade

In preparation for next-gen consoles, Behaviour Interactive has announced that its flagship title, Dead by Daylight, will be receiving a massive graphics upgrade starting next week. This series of patches will be a free upgrade to current game owners and paves the way for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles coming out in the next several months.

The upgrade is part of what devs are calling The Realm Beyond project and will be released over the next several months using the current update cadence. By the time DbD’s 5th anniversary comes about in 2021, “the game will continue to look and feel better than ever”. Each update between now and Fall 2021 will include updates to visuals, graphics, lighting animations, improvements to Cross-Play/Cross-Friends, and more. The game will be graphically overhauled on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia as it preps for next-gen machines.

The first boost to graphics will come next week:

For this first major update, we focused on updating Springwood and Yamaoka Estate. We gave a lot of attention to the lighting to make the experience of roaming these maps more realistic and engrossing. Individual rooms will now be more distinct, with each serving a specific function. This allows players to better orient themselves in a Trial, while also filling the maps with environmental storytelling details for you to discover. On top of that, the team has also made some significant changes to both the visuals and interaction animations of Generators and Chests.
