Pre Orders are now open for Apple Silicon owners ready to try Death Stranding on Mac

Kojima Productions and 505 Games have announced a new release that we really didn’t expect. The genre defying hit Death Stranding Director’s Cut is getting an Apple Release. Due to arrive sometime in the near future, this port of the already hugely popular title will mean MacBook owners can jump in and play the role of Sam Bridges, touring a post-apocalyptic world that defies expectations.

The port news arrived in our inbox just the day after the Cupertino tech brand wrapped up 2023, and this game will make use of Apple’s newest tech. The latest version of Death Stranding will un natively on Apple silicon and makes full use of Metal 3 features like MetalFX Upscaling, allowing for unbeatable graphical fidelity and amazing performance. That does mean that anybody with Intel based MacBook Pro will need to join Sam using Bootcamp or another means. Still, that hasn’t dampened spirits at Apple or Kojima Productions.

“A new era for gaming on Mac is here. Thanks to the power of Apple silicon, now tens of millions of Macs can run demanding games with outstanding performance, exceptional battery life, and breath-taking visuals,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “We’re thrilled DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT will be coming to the Mac later this year. Developers around the world can harness our powerful tools in Metal 3 to deliver incredibly responsive gameplay with high frame rates to more players than ever before.”

For those that haven’t had a chance to play out in the gorgeous world of Death Stranding, this iconic title throws players into the role of Sam. This outcast is tasked with deliveries across a disconnected version of America. Like many Kojima titles, this isn’t all it seems. Along the way you’ll try to rebuild a fractured society, reconnect people, and encounter world haunted by the trauma of what’s out there on the road. The definitive version includes the ‘Ruined Factory’ location, a treacherous underground compound packed with fresh dangers, and the game’s protagonist Sam Bridges now has a wealth of new delivery assists, from cargo catapults and ramps to a stabiliser function. It also bundles in gameplay improvements, combat polish, and a ton of other features that you can find out about on the official website or check our review.

This is something of a monumental step for Apples current generation of computers. Apple Silicon hasn’t been a huge draw for big budget gaming and is largely untested. If you want to get in on the bleeding edge of MacBook gaming, then pre-orders are open now over on the Death Stranding Director’s Cut page on the Apple App Store.
