If you remember hitting the streets with the Battletoads for the first time or ever been on Diddy’s Kong Quest then you’ll want to hear this news. A team of Ex Rare developers, Chameleon Games, have just announced Tamarin, a brand new title coming to PlayStation and PC.
Set in a gorgeous Nordic environment, Tamarin is a third-person action platformer set in a gorgeous Nordic environment and follows the adventures of an adorable little monkey. After an insect invasion, the game’s protagonist sets out to liberate their family from the menace that looms over the land. This journey winds through an idyllic set of 3D surroundings, brimming with wildlife. As the forests turn to fjords, you will chase mysterious electrical fireflies, discover a secret underground world of dancing ants, rescue innocent birds, and restore the tamarin habitat.
The developers that helped bring so much magic to games like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong are clearly out to bring back this feeling of wonder.
“A lot of species are going extinct and their natural habitat is being lost and I’ve always wished to make a game series inspired by the most wonderful species and scenery on Earth,” said Omar Sawi, Founder of Chameleon Games. “Tamarin combines cute characters, beautiful locations, a catchy soundtrack and a combination of fun exploratory platforming and action shooter gameplay into something that appeals to a wide multi-gender demographic.”
A mix of 3D platforming action adventure with Metroidvania shooters, Tamarin is already taking shape under the guidance of many ex-Rare all-stars of yesteryear. Donkey Kong 64 artist Richard Vaucher leads art production on this particular title and the samples trailer below does look stunning. Audio is already on a great footing with Donkey Kong Country composer David Wise working on music and Graeme Norgate responsible for the sound effects. The results are clear to see in the trailer below and Tamarin already looks like it could be an absolute blast.
If your interest has been piqued, then you can find out more or pre-order the game, and get a 10% discount, on the official Tamarin website.
