A review of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and its online gaming qualities
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was released in October 2018, and immediately attracted the attention of gamers. Here, we take a closer look at just what this phone offers to you when it comes to playing games. We have to say, it’s a really impressive device.
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a very thin and lightweight phone, but its designers have managed to include a screen which matches the size of the Android Note 9. This is a clear indication of just how seriously the designers have taken the concerns of gamers to heart. A large screen is an obvious advantage when you are gaming.
The speed of this phone makes it ideal for gaming. Much of that speed comes from its processor, which is the Kirin 980. This was designed in-house by Huawei, which means that they do not have to rely, as other Android phones do, on processors made by Qualcomm. The Kirin 980 is built using 7nm architecture, like the Apple A12 Bionic. This allows for smaller gaps between the transistors on each chip, improving performance and efficiency, and helping gamers enjoy a much smoother experience.
Another feature which will please gamers is the battery life of this phone, which is outstanding. The 4200 mAh battery with Qi charging keeps the phone powered for days, potentially, which is ideal for those times when you’re completely absorbed in a game. The battery offers around 29 hours of talk time, which is excellent. If you like playing slots games, such as Rainbow Riches on Wombat Casino, you are sure to be impressed with the length of time that you can spend playing.
Graphics are always important for gamers, and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro provides you with superb graphics. This is mainly due to the Mali G76 MP10 graphics card. The phone’s overall speed and processing capacity when combined with the Mali G76 mean that games run superbly fast, even when you’re playing intensive games like Asphalt 9. This phone really is a level above when it comes to the speed of gameplay and the quality of the graphics.
We tested the game by playing Arena of Valor on it. We felt that this multiplayer online battle arena game offered the phone a real test of its capabilities. We were not disappointed with how things turned out. We cranked everything up to max, with the HD display enabled, and the phone still did not consume much power, with memory usage peaking at 711MB. This means, roughly speaking, that you should be able to play Arena of Valor for around 12 hours straight on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Overall, this is a great phone for gamers, with its performance having been shown to be outstanding. While many phones promise great gaming experiences but do not quite deliver, this cannot be said about the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Whatever kind of games you enjoy playing on your mobile phone, this device can handle them. If you want great gaming performance coupled with superb battery life, this is the phone for you.
