Developer Blizzard Entertainment has taken to the official site to offer Director’s take on the past 6 months of Overwatch 2. The game is about to jump into Season 4, promising many interesting moments ahead yet. The team decided that it’s time to look back and share their feelings on how the game is doing and what had been learned over the time.
One of the complaints that the team has received is the lack of communication about the game. The developers have been focused on turning that around via publishing roadmaps that extend beyond the next season and more. Another widely discussed topic was how easy it is to pick on the Support Heroes. To address the problem, the teas has approached it from a few different angles:
- Reduce the ability for Damage Heroes to disrupt the enemy backline and target Supports
- Give Supports additional tools to deal with the threat
- Exercise some restraint. Many players were getting accustomed to the switch to 5v5.
Additionally, players have provided a lot of feedback on the reworked competitive system and how their experience has been affected by a partial rating reset at the beginning of each Season. Starting with Season 4, the devs will be removing this reset so that players should have a much clearer picture of their rating.
“The last six months have been really exciting; we’ve learned so much from our community and are looking forward to continuously improving the game. It probably goes without saying, but we’re eager to share what’s coming in Season 4 (and beyond!) – there’s so much more to come in 2023!”
