Paradox Interactive announced today it’s plans to acquire Harebrained Schemes, the studio behind turn-based games Battletech, and the Shadowrun series. It should be noted that Paradox published BattleTech is the recent launch of the game.
With this acquisition, Seattle-based Harebrained Schemes will now be an official division of Paradox, a company that specializes in strategy games. With the huge success of both BattleTech and the Shadowrun series, the acquisition will help strengthen Paradox’s pedigree in the strategy game genre.
“Harebrained Schemes have proven themselves as a world-class studio with a very talented team within a genre where Paradox wants to be present,” said Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester. “In addition, we really like the studio, the people who run it, and their games; these are all absolute hard criteria for us in any acquisition. Our recent successful launch of BattleTech, our first project together, has been a fantastic collaboration, but the possibilities of what we can do together in the long term now that we’ve joined forces — that’s what has us truly excited.”
While the acquisition will put Harebrained Schemes fully into Paradox’s hands, they will retain their own internal management and creative teams as part of Paradox. Paradox has been a fan favorite for years, with this acquisition there is huge hope for exceedingly better strategy games in the future!
