Blizzard has announced that Hardcore Realms are coming to World of Warcraft Classic.
Want to grind hundreds of hours only to lose your epic gear. Read on, because Blizzard has just announced World of Warcraft Classic hardcore Servers. Masochist MMO players will be gleefully hacking their way through a new set of servers soon with yesterday’s drop from Blizzard. Spotted on the official forums and socials, the news means that players can pop into a brand-new Realm that comes with permanent death turned on. The change doesn’t have a full release date yet but appears to be headed for Public Test realms already.
Players looking to sample the situation over on PTR will notice more than a simple switch. Alongside the one life scenario, anybody taking to this version of the popular MMORPG will find that PvP flagging needs to be explicitly turned on by a player, resurrection is no longer a thing, and the Bubble Hearth has been burst.as an example, Blizzard notes that:
Paladins will not be able to use their Hearthstone while under the effects of Blessing of Protection, Divine Protection, or Divine Shield on Hardcore realms.
Being able to “Bubble Hearth” is a fairly iconic, if not exactly heroic, feature of the Paladin Class. However, the Reincarnation ability is also an iconic feature of the Shaman class. While Paladins have enormous tools to prevent death, a Shaman’s core tool to recover from death is wholly incompatible with Hardcore. As a result, we are removing the ability for Paladins to use their various immunity abilities to safely cast Hearthstone and escape danger.
There are some additions, however. Duel to the Death is exactly what it sounds like, and all the original WoW Content phases unlocked and available right at launch. On browsing the post, we couldn’t see any mention of full looting, so it looks like once you’re down all your gear goes with you. Most importantly, this is going to make raids extra precarious is you don’t look out for the head.
